Naui Advanced Scuba Diver - increase your diving skills with Scuba Africa

Okay so you think you are diver now? You have got your first qualification and are a NAUI (or other organisation) Scuba Diver, why do you need more training? The fact is there is a lot more to learn. The Scuba Diver course taught you the basics now its time to learn more about this wonderful sport.

This course is a "hands on", actually at the risk of being corny it is a "fins on" course, no classrooms, no lectures and no exams so you don't have to worry about bringing flowers for your instructor. The course is intended to teach you more than the basics about diving and to introduce new activities such as night diving, and for those who are statistic mad, it increases the depth that you are allowed to dive to.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is a continuing education certification course for certified divers who:

Want additional training.

Have moved from one diving area to another and want local experience.

Do not have, but want to get, NAUI certification.

Would like to have experience at a variety of diving sites and conditions.

Want to have a fun weekend diving and get another card for the wallet.

THE COURSE BASICS

PREREQUISITES	HOURS	DIVES
1. Minimum of 15 years old (Junior certification for 12-14 year olds) 2. NAUI Scuba Diver Certification (or NAUI recognised equivalent) 3. Have your own equipment (although you can rent)	Approximately 6 hours spread over a long weekend	Total of 6 including: Night diving Navigation Deep diving

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO?

As we have said, there are no lectures, there will be a detailed dive briefing before each dive and you will need to show that you can do the following:

Perform selected basic scuba skills.
Perform selected rescue or assist skills.
Use dive tables to plan all dives.
Record dives in log books.
Navigate underwater.
Use appropriate equipment to perform selected tasks.

Doesn't sound exactly difficult does it?

ABOUT THE DIVES

There are a total of six dives made for the course, no more than three per day. Three dives are compulsory:

Navigation

Night or low visibility diving

Deep diving (40 meters maximum depth)

and then a further three dives are chosen from this list:

Search and recovery

Boat diving

Light salvage

Hunting and collecting

Exploration and underwater mapping

Observation and data collection

Diving in surf or currents

Shore diving

Diving for photos or video

Using dive computers

Complete the dives, enjoy yourself and you're an Advanced Scuba Diver......

However, at this point let me add a word of caution.....

There was a young man who bragged about his qualification in front of some people who had not quite finished their course last June, and, unfortunately he did not have time to remove his car keys from his pocket before he got thrown in the water. His car alarm remote was not waterproof.

So if you're doing the course make sure you have a waterproof remote, or keep your mouth shut!
